The BBA adheres to the standards set out by the International Test Commission (ITC), the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the American Psychological Association (APA).
1. Natural preferences vs capability
All of us pick up ‘learnt’ behaviours along the way in life, however, the BBA does not measure these. It only measures natural behaviours because, in times of stress or pressure, these are what we tend to revert back to. ‘Learnt’ behaviours often take up more of our energy, and become unsustainable when we’re under strain for long periods.
So, if you don’t quite see yourself in your results, it may be because you’re picturing behaviours you’ve cultivated – not what’s actually natural to you.
2. Context
We might see ourselves as being highly altruistic, or, perhaps not very sociable. But our opinion on these traits will stem from our context e.g. how we act within our immediate friend groups.
The BBA by Arctic Shores compares individual scores to a much larger ‘norm’ group, which better reflects the traits of the wider population. This broader context can often explain differences between how you see yourself, and what the tool sees in you.
So don’t be alarmed if you’re actually slightly lower down on one trait, or a bit higher on another. This will often just be down to the context in which you’ve formed your opinions.
