About the Opportunity
This is a new specialty pharmaceutical company formed by AlbionVC and one of its existing pharmaceutical companies. AlbionVC is one of the UK’s largest venture capital investors with over £1bn in funds under management and a 30-year track record and a strong focus on pharmaceuticals and healthcare.
The vision is to build the leading European pharmaceutical company focused on dose-form innovation for adult patients with high unmet need. The core strengths of the company will be in the identification of areas of high unmet need and the commercialisation of novel formulations, either acquired, in-licensed, or developed in-house. The company is being established initially with licenses to three drugs, one of which is ready be launched commercially. Peak sales for these three drugs are estimated to reach well over £150m across Europe alone. AlbionVC will provide the capital for the new company, enabling it launch commercially and develop its pipeline of future opportunities.
Role Overview
We are seeking an entrepreneurial pharmaceutical executive to help build the leading European specialty pharmaceutical company focused on dose-form innovation for adult patients. The CEO will shape the company’s direction from its early beginnings, set the strategy, hire the executive team and be deeply involved in the initial product launches and pipeline development.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of commercial success and strong leadership skills. We are looking for someone who is driven, fast-paced, resourceful and ready to roll up their sleeves. As an early-stage CEO role, this position requires perseverance and grit. In return, it offers a significant equity stake in the company as a founding member, with the potential to participate substantially in the upside this opportunity presents.
Key responsibilities
- Leadership and culture. Attract and retain top talent. Recruit the executive leadership team (ELT). Guide and mentor the ELT. Implement strong, high-performance culture that lays the foundation for company growth.
- Strategy. Formulate and iterate long-term vision, mission and short-term goals and targets for the company. Lead the broadening of the drug portfolio through R&D, in-licensing or acquisition.
- Operations. Be closely involved in all operational aspects of the company in the initial phase, including commercial launches and R&D. As the company scales, ensure strong operational excellence and accountability.
- Transactions. Lead in-licensing / acquisition deals for novel formulations. Lead investor fundraisings.
- Governance. Establish and implement strong governance frameworks including strict compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Stakeholder engagement. Be the face of the company. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, regulators, shareholders, and other key stakeholders, representing the company’s interests and values.
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a leader in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Deep knowledge of pricing, market access and reimbursement in the UK and Europe, along with an understanding of all aspects of the pharmaceutical value chain including R&D, regulatory and manufacturing.
- Demonstrated record of success, with a history of consistently achieving or exceeding goals.
- Track record of successfully launching new drugs to market and/or significantly growing existing drug franchises.
- Strong interpersonal skills with experience of managing and scaling teams.
- Excellent communication skills. Strategic thinker with strong financial acumen
Compensation & Benefits
The compensation package will be competitive, but we are seeking someone focused on long-term upside through a generous equity ownership, rather than short-term contractual compensation
