Cat McDonald
Partner
Overview
Cat focuses on investments at the intersection of technology, markets, and geopolitics, with particular emphasis on cybersecurity, digital risk, defence, energy, and financial infrastructure. Her work centres on companies transforming critical and legacy systems, often in sectors that are technically complex, politically sensitive, and increasingly central to economic resilience and societal functioning.
She approaches venture through an economic lens, with a long-standing interest in how capital allocation, ownership, and governance shape long-term outcomes. Prior to joining AlbionVC in 2018, Cat worked at Goldman Sachs in New York and London. She holds a degree in Economics from Harvard University.
Personal
Outside of work, Cat writes Venture Geopolitics, a weekly newsletter exploring how venture funding decisions are becoming strategically consequential as capital flows shape control over critical technologies and infrastructure. She also enjoys being active and outdoors – competing in ultramarathons, paragliding, hiking, and skiing.
In business and in life, I value pace, positivity and empathy. As a result, I seek these traits in the founders I work with and do my best to deliver the same.
