Overview

AlbionVC investment manager Tanel joined the team in 2018 to work on the UCL Technology Fund life sciences team.

The fund is a partnership between AlbionVC and UCL Business. It helps ensure unique IP emerging from University College London realises its commercial worth. UCLTF investors support entrepreneurs launching spin-outs that have the potential to transform lives.

Tanel completed his own PhD and postdoctoral research at UCL. His studies were focused on developing synthetic biological tools for microbiome engineering. Now he backs teams looking to translate next-generation therapeutics.

His scientific pedigree, and close understanding of the environment young entrepreneurs are negotiating, gives Tanel an edge in his work as an investor for the fund.

Tanel started out his AlbionVC career as a summer PhD intern in 2016. He also holds an MSc in Nanotechnology and Regenerative Medicine from UCL, and a BSc in Human Biology from King’s College London.

Personal

Outside work Tanel pursues two other passions – food, and books. A born-and-bred Londoner, the investor prides himself on his encyclopaedic knowledge of his hometown’s diverse culinary delights. When not pointing colleagues to the nearest gastronomical spot, Tanel is often to be found asking for contributions to his ever-growing and eclectic reading list.

I  count myself a life-long scientist, and it’s a humbling privilege to be able to work with some of the best scientific innovators in the world on a daily basis.
